Ibiza JoySail 2024: A Resounding Success

The 2024 Ibiza JoySail regatta concluded in September, marking another successful chapter in the Mediterranean yachting calendar. Thisyear's edition saw the largest fleet in the event's history, with 18 superyachts competing across various classes. The blend of competitive racing and luxurious experiences both on and off the water made it a memorable occasion for participants and spectators alike. The event’s unique mix of intense races and relaxed, upscale hospitality at Marina Ibiza added to its appeal.

Key Performances

One of the standout performances came from the Swan 115 yacht Moat, which clinched its fourth consecutive win in the Performance class. The team credited their success to strong teamwork and camaraderie. Meanwhile, Maximus, a 195-foot German Frers ketch, made headlines bysetting a new record for the Mallorca-to-Ibiza race, completing the48-nautical-mile course in just 3 hours and 31 minutes.

Tight Competition

In the World Cruising XL class, Bliss managed to hold onto its lead despite lighter winds, with Will Bishop of Superyacht Partners taking a prominent role onboard, while L’Hippocampe dominated the World Cruising L class with an impressive string of victories. The regatta featured close competition across all classes, with races often being decided by mere minutes. The Corinthian spirit was also on display, as several amateursailors placed among the top positions.

Noteworthy Incidents

Ammonite II, a Corinthian entry making its debut inthe Performance Cruising L class, added an element of excitement to the regatta. Guided by coach Campbell Field, the team’s commitment to learning was a highlight. Additionally, the focus on Corinthian entries was prominent, with seven podium spots claimed by amateur sailors, reflecting the inclusive nature of the event.

The onshore experience at Ibiza JoySail was just as important as the racing, with over 400 participants enjoying lively social events at Marina Ibiza. The seamless blend of high-end hospitality and competitive sailing continues to set this regatta apart.
